Traditional sports media is boring. Let’s face it, is anyone sitting down to read the ESPN power rankings of most likely MVP candidates for the NBA? Is anyone really reading and digesting every word that gets written there? Or are you scrolling down until you see your favorite player, reading his paragraph, and then smiling contently because ESPN recognizes his importance. Or, alternatively, are you scrolling through the rankings, realizing that ESPN doesn’t have a single sentence on Devin Booker, sitting back and wondering “How does ESPN not acknowledge a young star averaging 27 points a game on 50% shooting who is leading a resurgent Suns team to relevancy that has recently been a perennial bottom dweller?”, then angrily writing a tweet responding to the power rankings, then deciding that enough is enough and you’re going to start your own sports blog that will “give the people the truth they deserve!”.
Anyways, what is this exactly? What is this website that you have dragged me to? Well, it’s my sports blog! But it’s going to be a different kind of sports blog. And no, it won’t just be the same thing you can get at ESPN or anywhere else but with my own opinions filled in (although I will give west coast sports the love and attention they deserve!). If you’ve ever listened to the Dan LeBatard show then that’s the vibe I’m going for here. It’s going to be very laid-back and hopefully very fun. I’ll of course talk about why the Clippers should really be the NBA favorites and stuff like that, but I’ll also talk some XFL, some obscure bad beats, why every MVP conversation is boring as hell, and much much more. It’s basically going to be a lazy river that talks about everything but also talks about nothing.
But most importantly, I want you all to be a part of these conversations. I want your voices heard, maybe ignored, but at least for a second, heard. That is going to be a huge part of how this whole thing works. I want you all to tweet at me, email me, pull me over on the street if you have to, because your thoughts and opinions are going to be part of what drives this blog to success. I’m going to use your tweets, emails, and random rants in this big blog machine. It’s going to be exciting and fun, and I hope you all will join me on this lazy river. Who knows where it will take us.
